MSBOA DISTRICT XVI SOLO & ENSEMBLE
Seventh (7th) and Eighth (8th) grade students are eligible to participate in solo and ensemble. I highly recommend that each student participates in this opportunity as there are many benefits to taking part in solo and ensemble. Students can perform a SOLO or in an ENSEMBLE (DUET, TRIO, QUARTET, ETC.). Students can only participate in TWO (2) events. It is recommended that students perform with similar instruments in small ensembles. Below is the registration form and informative document that discusses the process and benefits to participating in solo and ensemble. PLEASE FILL OUT ONE REGISTRATION FORM PER EVENT. PLEASE TURN IN ACCORDING TO THE CALENDAR DATES!
MSBOA Solo & Ensemble is held at Rochester High School (180 South Livernois Road, Rochester Hills, MI 48307)

MSBOA DISTRICT XVI BAND FESTIVAL & STATE BAND FESTIVAL
The Concert Band (7th Grade) and Symphonic Band (8th Grade) performs at MSBOA District Band Festival in early March (March 1st, 2nd or 3rd). The students perform 3 different selections (concert march or overture, required selection and elected selection). After performing, the band then moves to the sight-reading room where they will perform a selection that they haven’t seen. The band receives three ratings for their concert performance and rating for their sight-reading performance. The band receives and overall rating that includes all of the 4 concert scores. Depending on their score, the band may have the opportunity compete at State Band Festival in mid-April. Please see the calendar for specific dates!

additional performance opportunities
Performance with CHS Marching Band
Every year the 8th grade band members will have the opportunity to perform with the Cousino High School Marching Band. This gives our students the chance to experience what being a member in the Cousino Marching Band will be like in High School. Students will practice one day with the band normally on Thursday and then perform with the band at their Friday night football game. Students are expected to stay the whole game for this great experience! Please see the calendar for specific dates!
Honors Bands
Outside of our regular school day, students have the opportunity to be nominated to participate in several honors bands including MSBOA District XVI Honors Band and many others. Continue to visit this page for updates on possible honor bands to participate in.
